Interview with 'The Locksmiths'

Q: So for the people that don't know you who is 'The Locksmihs'?
Zush - We go by the name The Locksmiths aka Brick Titans, we're a rap duo "Zush & Syxx" who hail from west London., White city. The name "The Locksmiths" came about from a lyric & phrase we used to say a lil while bk when we we're apart of a rap group which was "we got it locked & know we're turning the key" from there we just related that to a name which is how The Locksmiths came about, it just kinda fitted & made sense for how we was approaching the game. Brick Titans is a name we've adopted recently, which came from an idea between us & a mate of ours for an EP that basiclly represented us & where we're from.
Syxx - Also we used the name 'The locksmiths' as a metaphor since a locksmith has the skill and ability to open any door, and opening a door is a metaphor for opportunity.

Q: When and where did it all start for The Locksmiths?
Zush - it all started early secondary school days, it was just a thing of us being young with a group of friends & a general interest in hip hop. We've gone from being a group of friends making cassette tapes in our bedrooms to now us taking our craft seriously & tryna make something of it.

Q: So, What are your thoughts/feeling about the current state of the music scene?
Zush- My personal thoughts on the music scene right now is quite positive, i mean there's some decent tunes coming out at the moment i can't lie. It seems a few artist have defo up there game so that's always a good thing... Dnt get me wrong though there's alot of crap out there still. which to me is still at the forefront for the most part.
Syxx - Yeah i agree with Zush, I think the content has improved alot with more artists now being more concerned with putting out songs with a message instead about bragging soley about their lifestyle, that shit bores me for real.

Q: How do you separate yourself from other artist?
Zush - our personalities, characteristics, day 2 day life, what we listen to, what we dont listen to I think all comes in to play in what separates us from other artist. We try to be as original & unique as possible while still remaining real to who we are. We tend not to follow the latest fashions & sounds just cos that what's in. We all live different & separate life's , we just make sure we apply ours to our music while at the sametime being that touch more creative with the style & versatility.B=
Syxx - to add to what Zush said i think alot of it is also to do with the era of hip hop we come from, not sayin mans old or nothing lol but we understand to be respected as an mc its not just about how much money you got or who you killed but how you flow, your rhyme schemes, wordplay, delivery and how much thought you put into your bars to get the message of the song across...well we at least try to do that anyway lol.

Q: Who influenced you as a artist?
Zush- groups like A tribe called quest, De la soul, Outkast, terrafirma Artist such as Nas, Rodney P, Styles P are all people who have influenced me over ther years as an artist.
Syxx - yeah i would have to say Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, Method man, Nas, Jeru the Damager, KRS One,Big L and Big Pun to name a few.

Q: Who would you like to work with in the future?
Zush- In the uk it would say Shakka, Emili Sande & labyrinth because I think they'll very talented & would be interested in what kinda music we would come up with and as for US it would be Timbaland & The Neptunes just because I've grown up listening to these guys and would be over the moon if I could get a beat from them.
Syxx - I would like to work with Maverick saber and Estelle becuase i think they both have a real unique voice and thats always a good thing to keep a listener when trying to get a message across.

Q: Where can people find your stuff?
Zush - you can find all our music on and content in the links at the bottom of this interview.

Q: Have you got anything you would like to say or anyone you would like to shout out?
Zush - oh & makesure you look out for Team Sa'real, which is an Events company run by us & a mate of ours. We do various events from Live music shows to villa parties in Europe. Syxx - and make sure you download our new mixtape 'Life In A Sa'real World' from our bandcamp for free...infact download all our shit.
